Richmond IT Consultancy Raises More Funds for Education
Solvaria 2nd Annual Event Raises More Funds for CodeVA and Virginia Schools
Richmond, VA, November 12, 2018 - Solvaria, Richmond’s only IT consultancy focused exclusively on database services and strategic IT leadership, was joined by peers and its fellow members of Richmond’s technology community to give back once again to the future of the industry. It hosted a charity “Casino Night” to raise funds for education, with proceeds going to nonprofit CodeVA. The event was again held at Richmond’s Hippodrome.
Over two dozen businesses collaborated for a fun-filled evening of drinks, food, casino games, and more at “Betting Big on Tech, and Solvaria was able to make a $22,635 donation to CodeVA, surpassing last year’s $20,000 gift. CodeVA is a nonprofit organization that, through advocacy, teacher training, and direct student programs, partners with schools, parents, and communities to bring equitable computer science education to all of Virginia's students.
Using their donation, CodeVA will be able to train a cohort of teachers for the K5 Computer Science Coach Program. These teachers will then be able to train other educators. They also offer summer scholarships for up to 200 elementary students, over half of which have gone to girls. CodeVA also put “Virginia is for Computer Science Lovers” materials and literature in every classroom in the Commonwealth, and will continue this marketing program.
More than 20 Richmond-based companies have joined Solvaria in its effort to again give back to the future of the industry. The event brought together Richmond City Council members and delegates, CEOs, CodeVA board members, other notable policy influencers and friends of CodeVA.
